Swan Song

Did a shoot for the Travel Art Dance Company again over the last couple of days. TADC was invited to perform a choreographed piece for the opening of ‘Swan Song’, an exhibition by Catherine Evans. It was quite something to watch. I’ve never seen or shot a choreographed piece for TADC before and it sure is helluva lot easier to shoot compared to the improv shows. The duet piece was choreographed by Meah and performed by Laura and Caley with another five of the TADC crew in the background.

Strobing at home

Wow, another long overdue post. Have been stupidly busy with work over the last two months and haven’t had the chance to shoot anything. Actually I lie. I did assist in a wedding shoot end of last month, but was too busy to process the pictures. I did however, get together with Kerri-Ann and Logan today for a little studio setup practice. Kerri-Ann from the Foteclub Facebook group had contacted me earlier in the week asking if I was up for a portraiture session. How could I refuse? I asked her if she could wrangle some models for us to shoot and she had somehow managed to get a hold of two young modelling students! She then quickly set about locking down the date.

Travel Art Dance photoshoot

Happy New Year! Haven’t been updating or shooting as often as I’d like to. Had just completed my contract at my day job on the 17th of Dec and have been on a lovely 2 week break to unwind and stay away from my computer as much as I can. I did a photoshoot for the Travel Art Dance Company again in Dec 2010. You can also follow them on facebook here. Had met up with Meah, the artistic director a couple of months back and had a chat about getting more profile pictures of the dancers for their website. Was only too happy to oblige! The day was not without its difficulties though. Because I haven’t been shooting much before the lead-up to this, it had completely slipped my mind that Will still had my Cactus V4 triggers and softbox from the wedding shoot we had done previously. Tried contacting him but he was unfortunately out of mobile range. Managed to get a hold of a friend who I remembered had pocket wizards and so I had to get on a train at 7am to get them from him. Alas! They were the Flex TT5 PWs which only worked on Canon cameras! I couldn’t even get it to trigger my flashes on my Nikon!

Wedding set to ‘TURBO’

Helped Will out on a wedding shoot today and I must say this has got to be the fastest wedding I’ve ever done so far. Everything was just ‘GO! GO! GO!’. Started by covering the ceremony at a little church in South Yarra. I must say that although it wasn’t as big as the one Joel and MaryClare had theirs, it was still quite nice inside. Simple, no frills and nice natural light. From there, we headed out to the Botanical Gardens to get some images of the Elise and Chris with their entourage. After a couple of locations there, we headed into the city for more photos in Hosier Lane, which is famous for its graffiti strewn walls. Then, we finished off with photos in the middle of the tram tracks on Collins Street! Was pretty exciting, ducking on and off the tracks to avoid having a bridal party massacre. For those, I was basically just Will’s voice operated lightstand. Quick, simple, no fuss lighting with one 480-EX into a easybox softbox. Can’t wait to see what Will came up with for those! Here is a small selection of images that I managed to get today. I shall leave the ones in the church out for now.
